These little balls of sandstone can be found on the plateau above the Paria Canyon east Kanab. They are concretions that are a bit harder than the encasing sandstone and often erode out to roll downhill and gather in nearby basins. When the concretions lie loose upon the ground they are sometimes called "Moki marbles". The base of this vertical sandstone wall in the Paria Canyon has been undercut during floods by swirling water and hard stones transported from upstream. The resulting overhanging cliffs seem to lean on crooked pillars that look like the work of crazy sculptors.
