[TURKEY.WEST 30627] From the battlements of the medieval castle of Marmaris you have a nice view of the sea and the castle courtyard, which houses a range of antiquities. The first castle on this location is believed to have been built in the second millennium BC. It was repaired in the time of Alexander the Great and in the beginning of the 15th century. It attained its final form in 1522, during a rebuilding ordered by Suleyman the Magnificent. Photo Mick Palarczyk.

Ruined windmills south of Kizlan.
[TURKEY.WEST 30676] The group of windmills on a low hill south of Kizlan on the Resadiye (Datça) Peninsula, was built by a Greek community that lived 10 km. to the east near Emecik. After the Greeks left the Datça Peninsula around 1925, most of the mills were sold tot local Kizlan villagers. Before 1925 the inhabitants of Marmaris and Bozburun used to bring their corn to these mills by boat. In the mill on the left some of the gears of the interior are still in place and the the top axle can be seen jutting from the stone wall. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
