'Takhrim windows in Sana-2.'
The tower houses in Sana have windows with two sets of openings as here in the Harat al Mahdy quarter. The lower window is for ventilation and is controlled with shutters, and the upper opening is an arched or circular window that allows light to enter even when the shutters are closed. The upper (takhrim) window is made of plaster fretwork filled with colored glass or translucent alabaster. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
