Yemen, an Arabian fairy-tal
Yemen is an undiscovered pearl which lies hidden in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It has spectacular mountain scenery, green oasis and windswept rocky deserts. It's cultural treasures are just as divers: from intricately decorated villages, medieval souqs and sumptuous palaces to ancient mud-built skyscrapers occupied by black-robed witches.

Most tower houses in Sana are at least five stories high, and some reach as many as eight or nine. Their origin lies in the remote villages where farmland was scarce and verticality was the only means of accommodating the settlement of people with efficient use of the land. In Sana each city quarter (harat) has its own city garden (bustan). As the gardens are mostly situated in the vicinity of mosques, the radishes, onions and fruit trees in the bustan are irrigated with water from the same wells that supply the ritual washing basins of the mosques.
