Maritime Alps: Three Hikes above the Tinée valley
The Tinée river has created the deepest valley in the french maritime Alps. Hiking here means suffering large differences in altitude, with superb views and a lot of diversity as rewards. Adding to this diversity is the fact that Roure, our 'base camp' overlooking the Tinée from a balcony position, is situated right at the border between Alps and Méditerranée.

A Zygaena transalpina moth is taking off from its flower in the Vallon de la Mollières, a side valley of the Tinée, in Mercantour national park. Up from hamlet Mollières it is so rich in butterflies and moths that the slopes get more colour from their wings then from the abundant flowers. Photo Paul Smit.
