Maritime Alps: Three Hikes above the Tinée valley The Tinée river has created the deepest valley in the french maritime Alps. Hiking here means suffering large differences in altitude, with superb views and a lot of diversity as rewards. Adding to this diversity is the fact that Roure, our 'base camp' overlooking the Tinée from a balcony position, is situated right at the border between Alps and Méditerranée.
[FRANCE.ALPSSOUTH 01936] 'Roure: baker 'Gégène'.' Baker Eugène Porta, Gégène for friends and villagers, drives for one and a half hour every Saturday evening to light his favorite traditional village oven or four communal in Roure, to serve pizzas in the evening and bread, croissants and cakes on Sunday morning. He is the warm heart of Roure, where more news and gossip is exchanged in one evening then during all the rest of the week. Photo Paul Smit.
