'Floral fragrances.'

In June broom is the dominant vegetation above Menton. Its flowers are four times as large as the broom I am familiar with. The smell is bigger than life too: as if a thousand honey pots have been left open. This photo is taken in the Borrigo valley north of Sainte Agnès. Photo Paul Smit.

'Elderblossem juice.'

In the Wagram, between Krems and Stockerau, you come across elders everywhere. And although wine is its main product, Holundersaft is as typical for the region. No elder berry juice, but juice made from the blossom. The umbel flowers, saturated with honey, are left in water for 24 hours, together with fresh cut lemons. The result is very refreshing. Perfect for the one who is driving during all the wine tasting. Photo Paul Smit.
Smit & Palarczyk > [FRANCE.ALPSSOUTH 02053] 'Houseleek in Mercantour.' As beautiful as it is small: houseleek (Sempervivum arachnoideum), photographed in Mercantour. Photo Paul Smit.
Smit & Palarczyk > [FRANCE.ALPSSOUTH 01924] 'Butterfly valley.' An Apollo moth (Parnassius apollo) on a thistle in the Vallon de la Mollières, a side valley of the Tinée, in Mercantour national park. Up from hamlet Mollières it is so rich in butterflies and moths in summer that the slopes get more colour from their wings then from the abundant flowers. Photo Paul Smit.

Smit & Palarczyk > [POLAND.MAZURIA 4774] 'Meeting with granny.' Meeting people is easy in Poland. And if you do your best to learn a couple of words you can make friends for life. But remind: Poles love to pull your leg. Photo Paul Smit.

Smit & Palarczyk > [SWITZER.TICINO 01382] 'Brissago Island.' The Lago Maggiore is famous for its exotic islands. The Swiss part has two: the Isole Brissago. The smallest is untouched, the larger (photo) transformed into a botanical garden. Happy flowering oleander proves frost is absent here, just like on the Mediterranean coast. Photo Paul Smit.
