'Gardens of Isola Bella.'
Mother and daughter overlooking Isola Bella, the 'beautiful island', main sight of the Lago Maggiore. It is a man made piece of art. The garden is an ode to rationality, typical for the baroque. Strong geometry and symmetry typify the terraces rising high above the lake, adorned with statues and balustrades. At the same time the garden breathes surrealism. You can find lines of sight where the symmetry seems to dissolve. Then you seem to have encountered a stair pyramid in the jungle, designed by Salvador Dali. Photo Paul Smit.
