[FRANCE. ATLANTIC 30060] ’Fishing cabin near Marsilly.’ A fishing huts straddles the Atlantic coast near the village of Marsilly, north of La Rochelle. These huts are named 'carrelets' in French and are quite popular along the coast of the Charente-Maritime. During high tide a rectangular net is lowered vertically into the sea from the stilted hut. After remaining a few minutes submerged the net is quickly lifted by means of a winch thus trapping the fish between it and the surface. During a sea kayaking trip along the coast they form an interesting attraction. Photo Paul Smit.

[Egypt 29968] ‘Pharaoh list at Abydos.’
[EGYPT 29968] ‘Pharaoh list at Abydos.’ On a corridor wall in his temple at Abydos pharaoh Seti I has inscribed a list of (most of) his predecessors. There are two rows of thirty-eight cartouches. The names of certain kings have been omitted, such as the female pharaoh Hatshepsut and the pharaohs of the Amarna period (Akhenaten, Tutankhamun). Here we see a detail from the list which shows four pharaohs form the third dynasty and one from the fourth dynasty: Djeser-za (Djoser), Teti (Sekhemkhet), Sedjes (Khaba), Neferkare (Huni) and Sneferu. The list is located on the west wall of a corridor which branches off from the south side of the Second Hypostyle Hall.
