During the summer, some medieval events are organized in the castle of Les Baux-de-Provence. These include demonstrations of falconry in which not only falcons perform, but owls, eagles and other birds of prey as well. The leading act is performed by a medieval "princess", who is in perfect unity with her horse. The castle, which nowadays is a large complex of ruins, was once the seat of the noble Des Baux family, who became Counts of Orange in 1173 and Princes of Orange in 1181. Photo Paul Smit.
