’Tomb sculpture in Midwolde.’
The church of Midwolde houses a beautiful marble tomb sculpted by well-known Dutch baroque sculptor Rombout Verhulst (1624-1698). The tomb was commissioned by Anna van Ewsum for herself and her husband Carel Hieronymus van In- en Kniphuisen, who we see here in the foreground. Anna and Carel were the wealthy inhabitants of the nearby Nienoord Estate at Leek. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
