[GERMANY.THUERINGEN 30313] In 1854 Moritz von Schwind decorated the Landgrafenzimmer in the Wartburg with romantic frescos showing legends about the medieval rulers (Landgrafen) of Thuringia. This detail is part of a scene at the court of Albrecht der Entartete (1265-1308) that is titled “Frau Venus hier viel Leiden bringt”.
The Wartburg is a medieval castle situated on a hill south of the city of Eisenach. The castle's foundation was laid about 1067 by the Thuringian Count of Schauenburg, Ludwig der Springer. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
