[GERMANY.THUERINGEN 30456] Goethe and Schiller are buried in the Fürstengruft, the ducal burial chapel of Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach in the Historical Cemetery of Weimar. Due to the presence of the famous poets the tomb is also called Goethe-und Schiller-Gruft. The chapel was designed by the architect Clemens Coudray between 1823 and 1828. Here we see a four-winged cherub which adorns the inside of the dome that crowns the upper hall.
The chapel is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Photo Paul Smit.
