’Silver gate in Patan.’

The entrance of Patan's Rato Machhendranath Temple (1673) is decorated with silver repoussé. Rato Machhendranath is Patan's god of rain and plenty. To Buddhists he is the Tantric edition of Avalokiteshvara, while to Hindus he is a version of Shiva. His image is carted through the streets each year during city's most important festival.
