	Akdamar is a small island in Lake Van situated about 3 km from the southern shore. Its principal building is the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, built around 915 AD by king Gacik I Artsruni of the Armenian Vaspurakan kingdom who established one of his residences on the island. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
