France: River Loire by kayak - paulsmit
’Chaumont's Castle seen from a paddler's perspective.’

The 15th century castle of Chaumont-sur-Loire looks down on a paddler navigating the loire between Blois and Amboise. Locally the river is covered by large patches of flowering River Water-crowfoot (Ranunculus fluitans; NL: Vlottende waterranonkel). Rooted in the riverbed, it produces strands of up to 6 meters in length, that are stretched out in the direction of the current. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
