‘Looking south along the Trotternish Ridge.’

On Skye's Trotternish Peninsula the steep escarpment of the Trotternish Ridge offers some of the island's most dramatic landscapes. The sloping plateaus consist of large sheets of lava which were erupted when the European continent and America started to drift apart 60 million years ago. After the eruption the horizontal lava sheets were gently tilted to the west. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
