'Nikolaikirche in Leipzig.'
Originally the vaults of the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig were late-gothic (as is still the exterior of the church), but between 1784 and 1797 the complete interior was remodeled by German architect Johann Carl Friedrich Dauthe in the neoclassical style. On 4 September 1989 it was in this church that the peaceful demonstrations started that grew into the movement that brought down the communistic regime of East Germany. Photo Paul Smit.
