Relief in Ernst-Abbe-Monument in Jena.
[GERMANY.THUERINGEN 30509] A relief by Max Klinger in the Ernst-Abbe-Monument in Jena shows how optics can bring man closer to the microscopic beginnings of life, in this case sperm cells. Ernst Abbe (1840-1905) was a physicist, optical scientist, entrepreneur and co-owner of Carl Zeiss AG, a German manufacturer of microscopes, telescopes, planetariums and other optical systems. The monument was designed by Henry van de Velde in 1911. Photo Mick Palarczyk.
